Bosančica is an authentic and special script created in Bosnia and the surrounding areas. It was given different names: Bosnian, Bosnian Cyrillic, Bosnian, Bukvica, Croatian Cyrillic, Croatian script, Bosnian-Croatian Cyrillic, Begovica.

Spreading from the 10th century from the east, from Bulgaria, the wave of Cyrillic also covered part of the Bosnian area, where it developed into a special form and a special variant of Cyrillic with admixtures of Glagolitic and Latin. This script has its own special ductus, it rejects stylistic letters and introduces new characters for its language, and with its shape and spelling it differs from Bulgarian and Serbian Cyrillic.

The number of monuments written in Bosnian is greater and more diverse compared to monuments written in Glagolitic, because a large number of them were transcribed from Bosnian Glagolitic to Bosnian in certain periods.
Many monuments written in Bosnia, manuscripts and others, were destroyed in the centuries-long gap between the enemy churches, East and West, the Hungarian invasion, after the Ottoman presence in Bosnia. Only one fragment of a book from the time of Bosnian independence was preserved until the recent war of aggression in Bosnia, that is the Teapot Gospel. The rest was scattered around the world, and sorted as it suited whom. That is why it was considered that there are no Bosnian manuscripts.
The oldest monument written in Bosnian is the Humačka ploča (10th century), followed by the Charter of Kulina Ban from August 29, 1189. years.
